U.S. Senator Todd Young of Indiana has announced his committee assignments for the upcoming 119th Congress. Notably, he will serve on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence for the first time. The committee was established in 1976 to oversee and study U.S. intelligence activities and ensure they comply with constitutional and legal standards.
"As a former U.S. Marine Corps intelligence officer, I have a deep appreciation for our dedicated intelligence professionals and the importance of unbiased intelligence to our national security," stated Senator Young. "I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to ensure policymakers are receiving the best intelligence possible as they make critical decisions."
The Intelligence Committee comprises 17 Senators: nine from the majority party and eight from the minority. This structure is designed to maintain a nonpartisan approach to intelligence oversight, fostering bipartisan cooperation.
In addition to his new role on the Intelligence Committee, Senator Young will continue his work on three other committees: Finance; Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and Small Business and Entrepreneurship. The Finance Committee is expected to be instrumental in tax reform efforts next year.
"I’m honored to continue my work on these committees to tackle the issues most important to Hoosiers, including stimulating economic growth, reducing costs for families, and ensuring America maintains global leadership in technology," said Senator Young.
These committee assignments are set to commence in January.
