Vigo County lawmakers have been appointed to key House standing committees at the Statehouse, as announced recently. These appointments are made biennially by the Indiana House Speaker following the November election and remain effective for the two-year terms of the members.

State Representative Bruce Borders, a Republican from Jasonville, has been appointed vice chair of the House Local Government Committee. Additionally, he will serve on the House Insurance Committee and the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee. Borders stated, "Our communities thrive when local governments, businesses and families have the tools they need to succeed," adding his commitment to legislation that strengthens Indiana's economy and protects Hoosiers' livelihoods.

State Representative Bob Heaton, a Republican from Terre Haute, was reappointed as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee's Higher Education Subcommittee. He will also be a member of the House Financial Institutions Committee. Heaton emphasized his focus on crafting a responsible budget: "Crafting a responsible budget that addresses our state's priorities remains one of my top responsibilities," he said.

State Representative Alan Morrison, a Republican from Brazil, continues as chair of the House Environmental Affairs Committee. He will also serve on both the House Elections and Apportionment Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee. Morrison highlighted his commitment to protecting natural resources while promoting economic growth: "Our state's natural resources are invaluable, and I'm excited to continue leading efforts to protect them while balancing economic growth," he noted.

The first day of the 2025 legislative session is scheduled for January 8 at 1:30 p.m., where lawmakers will convene. Hoosiers can access iga.in.gov for information on legislation, calendars, committee meetings, and sessions.
