Local legislators from Jackson County have been appointed to key House standing committees at the Indiana Statehouse. These appointments, made by the Indiana House Speaker, are effective for the two-year terms of the members.

State Representative Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) has been appointed as vice chair of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee. He will also serve on the House Local Government Committee and the House Public Policy Committee. Lucas, a former Marine, stated, "As a former Marine, I understand the challenges facing veterans and their families. There is always work to do to further support those who have sacrificed for our country. I remain committed to working with my fellow committee members to better serve those who served our great nation."

State Representative Dave Hall (R-Norman) will take on the role of vice chair of the House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee. Additionally, he will be a member of both the House Local Government Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee. Hall expressed his appreciation for using his experience as an REMC director and county official in these roles: "I appreciate the opportunity to use my experience as an REMC director and county official when serving on these committees," he said. "I hope to hear from Hoosiers from all walks of life on what we can do to keep our state moving forward."

State Representative Chris May (R-Bedford) has been appointed chair of the House Local Government Committee and will also serve on the House Natural Resources Committee. May emphasized that committees play a crucial role in evaluating legislation: "Committees are where a lot of the heavy lifting occurs as far as crafting and evaluating legislation," he said. "I look forward to diving into issues that matter to Hoosiers and ensuring the voices in our district are heard at the Statehouse."

The legislative session is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. on January 9th. Residents can visit iga.in.gov for information on legislation, calendars, committee meetings, and sessions.
