Allen County lawmakers have been appointed to serve on significant House standing committees at the Statehouse. These appointments, made biennially by the Indiana House Speaker following the November election, are effective for members' two-year terms.
State Representative Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne) has been reappointed as chair of the House Insurance Committee and will also serve on the House Education and Public Health committees. Carbaugh emphasized the importance of addressing healthcare costs, stating, "Exploring avenues to drive down Hoosiers' health care costs remains a priority and I look forward to those discussions." He also highlighted support for parents and students and the expansion of work-based learning opportunities for high school students.
State Representative Dave Heine (R-Fort Wayne) will continue his role on the House Ways and Means Committee and as chair of the Local Government and Finance Subcommittee. Additionally, he was reappointed to the House Agricultural and Rural Development, and Roads and Transportation committees. Heine noted that crafting the state's budget is a priority: "We want to make sure our spending practices are in line with what Hoosiers have come to expect, and that's ensuring we remain fiscally responsible and prudent with our funding decisions."
State Representative Chris Judy (R-Fort Wayne) will also serve on the House Ways and Means Committee. Judy's assignments include positions on the House Family, Children and Human Services, and Veterans Affairs and Public Safety committees. Judy remarked on committee responsibilities: "Hoosiers live within their means and budget for expenses, and they expect the same from us at the Statehouse."
State Representative Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne) will again chair the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee while serving on the House Utilities, Energy, and Telecommunications Committee. Morris expressed his commitment to supporting small businesses: "The government's role can sometimes make or break a small business. We want to try and minimize costly and complex regulations for those owners while simultaneously cutting unneeded red tape."
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene for session at 1:30 p.m. on January 9th. Hoosiers can access information about legislation, calendars, committee meetings, and sessions online.
