St. Joseph County legislators have been appointed to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse. These appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker every two years following the November election and remain effective for the duration of members' terms.
State Representative Dale DeVon, representing Granger, has been reappointed as chair of the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee. He will also be a member of the House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee. DeVon stated, "Child safety remains a top priority as we head into another legislative session. We will continue to build on our efforts and work together to find solutions to protect our most vulnerable."
Jake Teshka, a representative from North Liberty, was appointed chair of the House Financial Institutions Committee. Additionally, he will serve on the House Education Committee and the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee. Teshka remarked, "As the new chair of the House Financial Institutions Committee, I will use my previous experience as vice chair to listen and review commonsense legislation that benefits our communities. It's a privilege to represent my community at the Statehouse, and I'm excited to get to work."
Tim Wesco from Osceola was reappointed as chair of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee. He will also be part of the House Natural Resources Committee and House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee. Wesco emphasized that committees are responsible for vetting bills through public testimony and amendments: "Election security is important, and it's critical that we maintain voter confidence each election cycle. As we get set for the legislative session, I look forward to diving into these and other issues and representing my district at the Statehouse."
The first day of the 2025 legislative session is scheduled for January 8 at 1:30 p.m., where Hoosiers can engage with legislative activities online.
