Monroe County lawmakers have been appointed to key House standing committees at the Statehouse. These appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker every two years following the November election and last for the duration of the members' terms.

State Representative Dave Hall (R-Norman) has been reappointed as vice chair of the House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee. He will also serve on the House Local Government Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee. Hall stated, "Indiana's energy future is critical to our state's success," adding his eagerness to work with colleagues on innovative solutions for utility and energy needs.

State Representative Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) will continue as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee's Higher Education Subcommittee and will be a member of the House Financial Institutions Committee. Heaton remarked, "Crafting a responsible budget that addresses our state's priorities remains one of my top responsibilities," emphasizing opportunities to tackle significant issues through these committees.

State Representative Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) has been reappointed as vice chair of the House Public Policy Committee. She will also serve on the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Insurance Committee. Mayfield noted that committees play a vital role in vetting bills, hearing public testimony, and considering amendments. She said, "Our state's public policies and insurance regulations play a major role in the lives of everyday Hoosiers."

The first day of the 2025 legislative session is scheduled for January 8 at 1:30 p.m., where Hoosiers can engage with legislation through iga.in.gov.
