Jefferson County legislators have been appointed to key committees in the Indiana House of Representatives. These appointments are made every two years by the Indiana House Speaker following the November elections and last for the duration of the members' terms.
State Representative Alex Zimmerman, a Republican from North Vernon, has been named vice chair of the House Judiciary Committee. He will also serve on the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee and the House Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee. Zimmerman expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, stating, "It is an honor to serve as vice chair of the judiciary committee, and I look forward to bringing my experience as an attorney into this new role."
State Representative Zach Payne, a Republican from Charlestown, has been appointed vice chair of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee. Additionally, he will be a member of both the House Education Committee and the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee. Payne emphasized the importance of secure elections: "Fair, secure elections are a cornerstone of Indiana's democratic process."
Garrett Bascom, newly elected State Representative from Lawrenceburg, will join several committees including the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, and the House Local Government Committee. Bascom highlighted his readiness to contribute: "I'm ready to hit the ground running and bring my experiences from state government and private practice to these new appointments."
