Hendricks County lawmakers have been appointed to key committees in the Indiana House of Representatives. These appointments, made biennially by the Indiana House Speaker following the November elections, are effective for two-year terms.
State Representative Greg Steuerwald from Avon will serve on the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, as well as the House Statutory Committee on Ethics and the House Judiciary Committee. "We have dedicated our support for law enforcement, including a $96 million renovation of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy," Steuerwald stated. "We will continue to give them the best training and tools to effectively fight crime."
Craig Haggard, representing Mooresville, has been assigned to the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, along with roles on the Environmental Affairs and Roads and Transportation Committees. Haggard emphasized his commitment by saying, "Supporting our veterans and ensuring safe, efficient infrastructure is critical to Indiana's success. I'm committed to addressing the needs of our communities and working on policies that make a meaningful difference for Hoosiers."
Jeff Thompson from Lizton retains his position as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee. He highlighted the committee's responsibilities in vetting bills through public testimony and amendments. "Passing a balanced budget with strong reserves that continues funding critical services for Hoosiers remains my top priority," Thompson remarked. "We will work with our Senate counterparts and the new governor's administration to maintain these ideals that have made Indiana one of the best states for fiscal integrity and doing business."
Becky Cash from Zionsville has been appointed vice chair of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee. She will also participate in the Education Committee and Employment Labor and Pensions Committee. Cash noted her focus on resources for law enforcement, first responders, veterans, their families, students, job creators, and economic development: "Ensuring that our law enforcement, first responders, veterans and their families have the resources that they need both on and off the job is crucial."
