Area lawmakers from Henry County have been appointed to key House standing committees at the Statehouse. These appointments, made by the Indiana House Speaker, are effective for the duration of members' two-year terms following the November election.
State Rep. Cory Criswell (R-Middletown), newly elected in November, will serve on three committees: Environmental Affairs, Public Policy, and Roads and Transportation. "Committees are the first step in reviewing bills and gathering input from Hoosiers on the issues they face," Criswell stated. He expressed eagerness to collaborate with colleagues on legislative proposals that benefit communities.
State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) has been assigned to the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Ways and Means Committee. Prescott highlighted his role in crafting Indiana's next balanced budget as a member of Ways and Means: "I'll also look for ways we can ensure Hoosiers keep more of their hard-earned money."
State Rep. Brad Barrett (R-Richmond) will chair the Public Health Committee while also serving on Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as Insurance Committees. Barrett noted that committee work would begin at the start of the 2023 legislative session: "I'm honored to be trusted with this responsibility once again as the General Assembly seeks to tackle the most critical health challenges Hoosiers face."
The House is scheduled to convene for its session at 1:30 p.m. on January 9th. Residents can access legislation details, view calendars, and watch meetings online at iga.in.gov.
