State Representatives Matt Lehman and J.D. Prescott have announced that local communities in Indiana will soon benefit from state funding aimed at enhancing road and bridge infrastructure. The funds are being provided through Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which supports projects such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements.

A total of 223 communities across the state are set to receive over $139 million in matching grants. Representative Lehman highlighted the program's importance by stating, "The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program allows us to address our current infrastructure needs while looking ahead and planning for the future." He emphasized that maintaining roads is crucial for safety and attracting new businesses and residents.

Among the grant recipients are Portland, receiving $741,502, and Redkey with $166,134. Representative Prescott underscored the significance of these grants: "These grants are critical to our communities as they address costly and growing infrastructure needs."

The grant program requires smaller municipalities to match 25 percent of the funds locally, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. State law mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, Community Crossings has distributed more than $1.8 billion for local road and bridge improvements.
