Local communities in Indiana are set to benefit from newly released state funding aimed at enhancing road and bridge infrastructure. State Representative Brad Barrett announced that the funding is available through Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. This initiative supports projects such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements.

The program will distribute over $139 million in state matching grants to 223 communities across Indiana. "Hoosiers and visitors rely on Indiana's roads daily, and these grants help our local communities to enhance their reliability," said Barrett. "With this funding, we are showing a commitment to improving the safety, efficiency and quality of our infrastructure throughout the state."

Among the recipients of these grants are Cambridge City with $210,521, Centerville receiving $175,463, Fountain City allocated $146,787, and Hagerstown awarded $171,211.

To qualify for this competitive grant program, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds while larger communities need a 50 percent match. State law mandates that half of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has awarded more than $1.8 billion for local road and bridge improvements.
