Local communities in Indiana are set to benefit from state funding aimed at enhancing road and bridge infrastructure. State Representative Beau Baird announced that the funding is available through Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. This program supports projects such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements.
A total of 223 communities will receive over $139 million in state matching grants. "Road and bridge maintenance can be challenging for local governments, especially when budgets are tight," said Baird, who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. "Community Crossings grants are a critical tool, enabling our communities to complete essential infrastructure projects and keep their roads safer for everyone."
Among the grant recipients are Fillmore with $318,952, Greencastle receiving $1.5 million, and Roachdale awarded $251,739.
The grant requires smaller municipalities to provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. Additionally, state law mandates that half of the available matching funds be allocated annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has distributed more than $1.8 billion for local road and bridge improvements.
