October marks the arrival of Halloween, a time that brings excitement and spooky fun for many children. However, it can also present challenges for parents looking to ensure their child feels comfortable with the season's themes. Dr. Lori Hart, a school counselor with Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), offers guidance on how to prepare young children for Halloween.
“As we gear up for spooky costumes and decorations, it’s essential to help our young children prepare for the Halloween season,” said Dr. Hart, who serves as the elementary and middle school counseling coordinator for the district’s Postsecondary Readiness Department. She highlighted that October is also National Communicate with Your Kid Month, making it an opportune time to engage in meaningful conversations with children.
Dr. Hart provided several tips aimed at fostering communication and ensuring a safe Halloween experience. “By following these tips, you can create an open and supportive environment for your child during the Halloween season,” she explained. The focus is on strengthening bonds between parents and children while navigating the potentially scary aspects of Halloween in a fun way.
