The deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is nearing, as noted by lawmakers from Northeast Indiana. The application period will close on October 31.

State Representative David Abbott (R-Rome City) described the internship as a full-time opportunity during the spring semester, running Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. The session begins in January and ends in April. Interns receive $900 biweekly and can earn academic credit through their educational institutions.

"Our communications, legislative and policy interns all have the opportunity to work with lawmakers and other state leaders, which can help them establish a professional network that could lead to future job prospects," Abbott stated. He encouraged students of all majors to submit applications before the month's end.

Representative Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) urged interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, and recent graduates of all majors to apply online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship by October 31.

"In today's competitive job market, having an internship on your resume can set you apart from other candidates," Smaltz commented. "Our program builds on the skills that students are learning in the classroom, giving them the chance to apply their knowledge through hands-on experience."

Representative Denny Zent (R-Angola) highlighted additional benefits such as free parking, career development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns may also apply for a $3,000 scholarship for educational expenses.

"While interning at the Statehouse, students have the opportunity to network with professionals from various fields," Zent said. "With the deadline rapidly approaching, I encourage all interested students to apply."

Abbott mentioned that internships offer opportunities across various departments like legislative operations and communications.

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship until October 31.
