Applications to intern with Indiana House Republicans for the 2025 legislative session are now open, according to Porter County legislators.

State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) stated that the Indiana House of Representatives offers a spring semester internship at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and work full time, Monday through Friday.

"I encourage all college students and recent graduates to apply for this opportunity," Aylesworth said. "It's a great way for students to earn income while developing skills that will serve them in any career."

State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) noted that internships are open to college students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns receive free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through their college or university.

"A House internship is a tremendous opportunity for young Hoosiers who are looking to expand their skills and gain professional experience," Olthoff said. "From researching legislation to assisting with constituent communications and media relations, there is something for everyone."

Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

State Rep. Ed Soliday (R-Valparaiso) mentioned that the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy, and communications.

"This internship is a unique opportunity to learn about all sorts of industries across the state," Soliday said. "With Indiana House internships, students can witness the legislative process firsthand and work with legislators and professional staff during the busy and exciting legislative session."

Indiana House Republican intern recruiters will be available on Oct. 23 at the Valparaiso University Fall All Majors Career and Internship Fair and the Purdue University Northwest Fall 2024 Career Expo. Visit valpo.edu/vucan/career-and-internship-fairs to register for the Valparaiso University event and pnw.edu/event/fall-2024-career-expo for the Purdue University Northwest event.

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
