State Reps. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) and Lorissa Sweet (R-Wabash) have been appointed to serve on interim study committees, which will convene throughout the summer and fall to explore policy issues and work towards identifying solutions.

During these sessions, legislators will hear testimony from the public, various experts, and stakeholders as they develop bill recommendations for the upcoming budget session in January.

Lehman has been assigned to several committees: the Interim Study Committee on Commerce and Economic Development, the Artificial Intelligence Task Force, Legislative Council, Legislative State of Emergency Advisory Group, and the Indiana Semiquincentennial Commission. Additionally, he will chair both the Legislative Council's Audit and Financial Reporting Subcommittee and the Oral History Project Advisory Commission. He will also co-chair the Legislative Continuity Committee.

"Having these discussions over the interim provides lawmakers the chance to examine a variety of proposed topics geared toward improving the lives of Hoosiers," Lehman stated. "This summer and fall, the Artificial Intelligence Task Force will do a deep dive on the use of artificial intelligence technology within state agencies and the potential risks that come with this new technology."

Sweet has been appointed as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Government.

"Interim study committees are a great time for lawmakers to take a deeper dive into various issues and consider solutions that can improve the lives of our constituents," Sweet commented. "For this committee, we'll look for ways to improve and streamline state government operations and to ensure taxpayer dollars are being used wisely."

The 2024 legislative interim study committee assignments and other legislative appointments for House members are available online. Committee hearings typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis and can be viewed live on the General Assembly's website at iga.in.gov.
