On May 23, 2024, U.S. Senator Todd Young expressed his approval following the passage of two health-related bills by the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee. The Congenital Heart Futures Authorization Act and the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act received bipartisan support.
"I am pleased by today’s votes in the HELP Committee, and I urge the full Senate to pass these bipartisan bills," stated Senator Young.
The Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act aims to address and mitigate issues such as suicide, burnout, and mental and behavioral health conditions among healthcare professionals. This bill was introduced by Senator Young along with Senator Kaine (D-Va.) in January.
The Congenital Heart Futures Authorization Act seeks to enhance research and data collection efforts to improve care quality for individuals born with congenital heart disease (CHD). The objective is to increase childhood survival rates, prevent premature death and disability, and enhance the quality of life for approximately 2.5 million Americans living with CHD. This bill was introduced by Senator Young in collaboration with Senator Durbin (D-Ill.) in February.
Both pieces of legislation passed through the HELP committee with a vote tally of 19-2.
