The Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) recently spotlighted Brittany Marcus for her contributions to the district as the Talent Engagement Manager. Marcus is in her third year at IPS, focusing on staff recruitment and retention through the Proving What’s Possible campaign. This role includes managing the careers website, leading the Brand Ambassadors Program, and organizing recruiting events like IPS Networking Night Mixers.

Marcus also handles the distribution of service pins to acknowledge staff dedication. In addition to her role at IPS, she coaches girls’ basketball at Ernie Pyle School 90.

In a recent interview, Marcus explained her motivation for working at IPS: “I chose to work at Indianapolis Public Schools because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students who share similar backgrounds and experiences with me.”

She emphasized her commitment to diversifying the talent pipeline and creating an inclusive environment. “By diversifying the talent pipeline and bringing in educators and leaders from various backgrounds, we can create a more dynamic and inclusive learning environment,” Marcus said.

Marcus described IPS as a place that allows creativity and supports professional growth. “The ability to think outside the box and implement fresh ideas has made my work incredibly fulfilling, allowing me to see the direct impact of my contributions,” she shared.

Her current role was informed by her background as an educator. “As a former educator, my passion has always been centered around putting students first and ensuring they have access to the best possible learning environments,” Marcus said. Her aim is to ensure that schools are staffed with dedicated professionals.

Reflecting on her achievements, Marcus highlighted the Service Pin Distribution Plan: “It was incredibly rewarding to see so many deserving individuals acknowledged for their contributions, whether they were teachers, administrators, support staff, or other essential team members.”

Marcus also holds a Six Sigma Green Belt certification which she applies for data-driven decision-making. She stresses the importance of self-care in maintaining motivation and performance. “To stay motivated and maintain a healthy work-life balance, I make it a priority to schedule self-care days that allow me to recharge and reset.”

Regarding the future of IPS, Marcus is optimistic about the Rebuilding Stronger initiative. She noted, “I believe the Rebuilding Stronger initiative is a game-changer for IPS, and its biggest strength is its commitment to equity and opportunity for all students.”

Her advice to new IPS members is to “lean into the community, build strong relationships, and embrace the support systems around you.”

Concluding with advice for the broader community, Marcus stated, “Community is everything. Whether you’re an educator, student, family member, or staff member, the connections you build can truly shape your experience and impact.”
