U.S. Senators Todd Young, Cindy Hyde-Smith, and James Lankford have joined over 100 congressional members in urging President Trump to reinstate life-affirming pro-life policies. The lawmakers issued a letter calling for the broadening of these policies at the onset of Trump's new administration.
The letter also criticizes the Biden administration's stance on abortion, describing it as "unprecedented and illegal." According to the lawmakers, "Over the last four years, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and their administration systematically weaponized the government against the unborn."
They express optimism about reinstating previous policies from Trump's first term. "We look forward to the reinstatement of Trump policies on life," they wrote, advocating for a comprehensive approach to support pregnant and parenting women and their children.
The group calls for adherence to existing restrictions on taxpayer-funded abortions both domestically and internationally. They also seek a return to anti-discrimination conscience policies from Trump's prior administration. Additional requests include pardoning peaceful protesters and investigating potential illegal late-term abortions.
The letter suggests that federal programs be reviewed to enhance support for pregnant and parenting women with services such as housing, childcare, transportation, addiction recovery, and health care.
"We are grateful that the Trump administration can bring an end to the weaponization of the United States government against pro-life Americans," stated the lawmakers. They emphasized hope for providing resources that allow women real choices without feeling pressured into abortion.
Among those who signed are U.S. Senators Steve Daines, John Cornyn, Kevin Cramer, Marsha Blackburn among others. A total of 108 U.S. Representatives also endorsed this initiative.
The letter has received backing from several organizations including American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNs and March for Life Action.
