State Representatives Stephen Bartels and Chris May have been appointed to serve on significant House standing committees at the Statehouse. These appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker every two years following the November election, remaining in effect throughout the members' terms.

Stephen Bartels has been reappointed as chair of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee. He will also be a member of both the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee and the House Public Policy Committee. Bartels stated, "As a veteran, I am always looking to continue our efforts to help Hoosier service members with a successful transition from active duty to civilian life, as well as helping all veterans." He emphasized his priority of working with Governor-elect Braun to establish an office of school safety under the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. "I will also continue to reduce government and make our agencies more efficient," he added.

Chris May has been reappointed as chair of the House Local Government Committee. Additionally, he will serve on the House Financial Institutions Committee and the House Roads and Transportation Committee. May highlighted the importance of local government in citizens' lives: "Local government plays a huge role in the lives of everyday Hoosiers," he said. He stressed that ensuring effective use of taxpayer dollars through collaboration between state and municipalities is crucial.

The first day of Indiana's 2025 legislative session is scheduled for January 8 at 1:30 p.m., where lawmakers will convene. The public can access legislation details, view calendars, and watch committee meetings via iga.in.gov.
