State Representatives David Abbott and Chris Judy have been appointed to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse. These appointments are made biennially by the Indiana House Speaker following the November election and last for the duration of a member's two-year term.
David Abbott, representing Rome City, has been named vice chair of the House Government and Regulatory Reform Committee. He will also be a member of both the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee. "Government operations should prioritize serving the public and promoting transparency," Abbott stated. "As vice chair, I will continue working to eliminate regulatory obstacles and advocate for Hoosiers."
Chris Judy from Fort Wayne will join several committees: he will serve on the House Financial Institutions Committee, the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, as well as the House Ways and Means Committee. Judy emphasized that committees play a crucial role in vetting bills through public testimony and amendments. "One of our top priorities for the 2025 legislative session is passing a fiscally responsible budget," he remarked. "Our state has a long history of managing finances wisely, and I am confident that we will continue to do so."
The first day of Indiana's 2025 legislative session is scheduled for January 8 at 1:30 p.m., where lawmakers are set to convene. Residents can access information about legislation, view calendars, or watch committee meetings by visiting iga.in.gov.
