André Carson, a U.S. Congressman representing Indiana's 7th district, recently shared his views on the criminal justice system and presidential pardons through a series of tweets. Carson has been serving in Congress since 2008 after replacing Julia Carson. He was born in Indianapolis and holds a BA from Concordia University Wisconsin.

On December 12, 2024, Carson emphasized the need for balance in the criminal justice system by stating that it should provide "accountability, punishment, and restitution when the law is broken," while also allowing for "rehabilitation and restoration back into our communities when debts have been paid to society." "Our criminal justice system should provide accountability, punishment, and restitution when the law is broken, and no one should ever be above the law. But justice must also allow for rehabilitation and restoration back into our communities when debts have been paid to society."

In another tweet posted on the same day, Carson expressed hope that recent pardons would offer encouragement to those battling addiction during the holiday season. He stated: "I also hope today’s pardons send a message of hope to all those struggling with addiction, especially during the challenging time of the holidays. Recovery is possible."

Carson further praised President Biden's actions regarding these pardons as steps towards reuniting families and reintegrating individuals into their communities. He remarked: "These actions will reunite separated families and open doors to reintegrate into their communities. I commend President Biden for recognizing the rehabilitation of these individuals and for providing second chances. I hope to see more pardons to come."
