U.S. Senator Todd Young and U.S. Representative Erin Houchin, along with over 100 members of Congress, have called on President Biden to advocate for American families affected by China's decision to halt most intercountry adoptions.

In a letter addressed to the President, the lawmakers emphasized the importance of urging China to honor its commitments regarding these adoptions. They highlighted that around 300 children in China, many with health conditions, have already been matched with families in the United States.

"We request that you act in the best interest of these children and families by urging the PRC to fulfill and uphold the commitment the country has made," stated the lawmakers. They further expressed that "the American families that have been matched with their adoptive children are prepared to meet their long-term medical and emotional needs, and to give them the love and nurturing they need."

The letter also pointed out that some countries might still complete adoptions with China according to a State Department notice from October. The congressional members urged President Biden to ensure this applies to American families as well.

The full text of the letter is available online.
