Local communities in Indiana are set to benefit from newly released state funding aimed at improving road and bridge infrastructure. This funding is part of the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which supports projects such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection improvements. State Representative Alan Morrison (R-Brazil) announced that 223 communities across Indiana will receive over $139 million in state matching grants.
"Infrastructure is the foundation of any thriving community, and with this funding, local governments can make significant progress on essential projects," Morrison stated. "These grants are instrumental in ensuring that roads and bridges remain safe and functional for all."
Among the recipients of these grants are Parke County, receiving $338,446; Universal, with $67,877; and Vermillion County, awarded $375,454.
The grant program requires smaller municipalities to provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. Additionally, state law mandates that half of the available matching funds be allocated annually to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has distributed more than $1.8 billion for local road and bridge improvements.
