State Representatives Dave Hall and Bob Heaton have announced that Bloomington will benefit from over $871,000 in state funding for road and bridge projects. This funding is part of Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which aims to support infrastructure improvements such as road reconstruction, bridge preservation, and intersection enhancements. The program will distribute more than $139 million in matching grants to 223 communities across the state.

Representative Hall emphasized the importance of maintaining and upgrading infrastructure for community growth and safety. "Maintaining and upgrading infrastructure is essential for the continued growth and safety of our communities," Hall stated. "With the help of these grants, we'll be able to tackle projects that improve transportation for residents and businesses alike."

The grant requires smaller municipalities to provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. State law mandates that half of the available matching funds go to communities within counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since its inception in 2016, the Community Crossings program has awarded over $1.8 billion for local road and bridge improvements.

Representative Heaton highlighted the role of these grants in ensuring road safety and longevity. "These grants support the safety and longevity of the roads and bridges Hoosiers rely on every day," said Heaton. "By partnering with the state, communities are able to complete much-needed infrastructure improvements, setting up our area and Indiana for long-term success."
