State Representative Shane Lindauer has announced the launch of a new online platform designed to help Indiana residents compare health care prices and quality. The initiative is part of an effort to increase transparency in health care costs across the state.

The Indiana All Payer Claims Database, which Lindauer supported through legislation passed in 2020, is managed by the Indiana Department of Insurance. It gathers insurance claims data from both public and private health care payers to monitor costs, usage, and quality throughout Indiana.

"This database not only provides insightful information for Hoosiers but also allows health care facilities to see quality reviews," said Lindauer. "Shopping for health care services and providers can be overwhelming, and it's my hope this website can make that process much easier."

The platform enables users to research what others have paid for various medical procedures based on region, provider, and insurance plan. Additionally, it offers details such as lists of local providers performing specific services, average out-of-pocket expenses, and facility quality ratings. For instance, those seeking knee replacement surgery can enter their insurance details, procedure type, and zip code to receive information on nearby providers' quality ratings and associated costs.

The database aims to assist residents in making informed medical decisions while also identifying state-wide health needs. It supports policy development aimed at enhancing the affordability and quality of healthcare in Indiana.

Data collected by the APCD adheres to U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards as well as guidelines from the U.S. Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act. Onpoint Health Data administers the APCD with certification from HITRUST, which upholds federal and state security requirements.
