The United States Senate has unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the 120th anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS). The resolution, led by U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), commends BBBS for its work in mentoring young Americans and strengthening communities across the nation. It also supports the continuation and expansion of BBBS programs.
Senator Young shared his personal experience with BBBS, stating, "Years ago, I had the opportunity to be a mentor through a Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The experience helped me understand the incredible impact that connection can have on both the Big Brother and the Little Brother." He expressed his commitment to ensuring more young people benefit from these programs.
Senator Hassan highlighted the organization's role in helping children reach their potential: "Big Brothers Big Sisters plays an important role in helping children in New Hampshire and across the country reach their full potential."
Artis Stevens, President and CEO of BBBS of America, acknowledged the significance of positive mentorship: "For 120 years, our evidence-based approach has demonstrated that positive mentorship in the lives of young people has changed lives and communities for the better." He thanked Senators Young, Hassan, and other co-sponsors for their leadership on this resolution.
Darcey Palmer-Shultz, CEO of BBBS of Central Indiana, expressed gratitude for congressional support: "We’re grateful for the leadership of Senators Young and Hassan in sponsoring this bipartisan resolution. Our program creates life-changing mentoring relationships that are good for kids, good for our economy, and good for society."
