Applications to intern with Indiana House Republicans for the 2025 legislative session are now open, according to Lake County legislators.

State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) stated that the Indiana House of Representatives offers a spring semester internship at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and work full-time, Monday through Friday.

"I encourage all college students and recent graduates to apply for this opportunity," Aylesworth said. "It's a great way for students to earn income while developing skills that will serve them in any career."

State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) mentioned that internships are open to college students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns receive free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through their college or university.

"A House internship is a tremendous opportunity for young Hoosiers who are looking to expand their skills and gain professional experience," Olthoff said. "From researching legislation to assisting with constituent communications and media relations, there is something for everyone."

Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

State Rep. Hal Slager (R-Schererville) highlighted that the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy, and communications.

"Interning with Indiana House Republicans is a great way to learn the ins and outs of state government, and the issues and decisions affecting all Hoosiers," Slager said. "For students interested in diving into legislation and connecting with state leaders, I encourage you to apply now."

Indiana House Republican intern recruiters will be available on Oct. 23 at Valparaiso University's Fall All Majors Career and Internship Fair and the Purdue University Northwest Fall 2024 Career Expo. Visit valpo.edu/vucan/career-and-internship-fairs to register for the Valparaiso University event and pnw.edu/event/fall-2024-career-expo to register for the Purdue University Northwest event.
