The Romine Farm in Newton County has been awarded the Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award for its continuous operation since 1874, as announced by State Rep. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) and State Sen. Rick Niemeyer (R-Lowell).
"Indiana is a leading producer in agriculture and it is thanks to longstanding farm families like this that make it possible," Aylesworth stated. "With these awards, we celebrate the longevity of so many Hoosier farms and the dedication they have to building on their legacies."
Farms that have been owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150, or 200 years are eligible for centennial, sesquicentennial, or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
"I am always pleased to see Hoosier farm families receive the recognition they deserve for their dedication," Niemeyer said. "The Romine farm has more than earned this award, and I congratulate the family on all of their hard work."
The Romine Farm is among 104 recipients recently honored at the Indiana State Fair for their contributions to the state's agricultural sector. The Hoosier Homestead ceremonies take place every spring and summer. Since its inception in 1976, over 6,000 farms have received this recognition.
