Local lawmakers in Shelby County have been appointed to serve on interim study committees, which will convene throughout the summer and fall to explore policy issues and identify potential solutions. These committees will gather testimony from the public, experts, and stakeholders as they prepare bill recommendations for the budget session in January.

State Representative Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville) has been appointed to the Interim Study Committee on Courts and the Judiciary. "This committee gives us an opportunity to examine different ways to make Indiana's court system more efficient," Meltzer stated. "Whether reviewing different homeowner association policies to make living in Indiana better or finding faster ways for foster children to find permanent homes, we'll work hard to review and tackle issues facing Hoosiers."

Meltzer will also serve on the Probate Code Study Committee.

State Representative Cory Criswell (R-Middletown) will be a member of the Interim Study Committee on Roads and Transportation. "Lawmakers work year-round to identify and address challenges affecting Hoosiers," Criswell said. "Summer study committees are just another aspect of the important work done throughout the year that allow us to take a closer look at issues, collaborate with policy experts, and hear from the public. Our constituents expect and deserve results, which is why these committees are a great way to lay the groundwork for new legislation."

State Representative Robb Greene (R-Shelbyville) has been appointed to the Interim Study Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The 2024 legislative interim study committee assignments and other legislative appointments for House members can be found online. Committee hearings typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis and can be viewed live on the General Assembly's website at iga.in.gov.
