State Rep. Wendy McNamara (R-Evansville) has been appointed as chair of the Interim Study Committee on Corrections and Criminal Code. These interim committees convene during the summer and fall to examine policy issues and develop potential solutions. Legislators will gather testimony from the public, experts, and stakeholders to inform bill recommendations for the upcoming budget session in January.

"Regarding our laws and corrections system, we will review present trends in criminal behavior, sentencing, incarceration, and treatment," McNamara stated. "Feedback from the public and experts is crucial in order for the legislature to identify challenges and offer solutions next session."

In addition to her role as chair, McNamara will serve on the Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council and the Board of Trustees of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

The 2024 legislative interim study committee assignments and other legislative appointments for House members are available online. Committee hearings typically take place at the Statehouse in Indianapolis and can be viewed live on the General Assembly's website at iga.in.gov.
