WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, expressed strong support for the national security supplemental funding package, emphasizing the importance of addressing threats from China, Russia, and Iran. Young highlighted the necessity of diplomatic leverage, a strong military, and solidarity with allies and partners in facing these challenges.
Young underscored the significance of the legislation in providing crucial security assistance to countries like Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan, stating, “We cannot abandon these allies and partners as they face existential threats.” The Senator also stressed the urgent need to rebuild the defense industrial base to enhance military readiness and uphold America's global interests.
Reflecting on the complexities of global leadership, Young cautioned against the impulse to withdraw from international commitments, noting the potential costs of such actions. He warned that abandoning allies and partners could empower authoritarian powers like China and Russia, emphasizing that leadership comes with both sacrifices and rewards.
The national security supplemental funding package, supported by Young, passed the Senate with a 79-18 majority and previously cleared the House. The legislation includes provisions to strengthen the defense industrial base, support allies and partners, counter China's influence through platforms like TikTok, facilitate Ukraine reconstruction with Russian assets, and impose sanctions on Iran's drone and energy sectors, as well as its senior leaders. The bill now awaits the President's signature to become law.
