State Representative Jake Teshka welcomed several local students to the Indiana Statehouse on March 23, where they took part in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.

The program allows students to experience state government firsthand and observe lawmakers at work. It is designed to encourage civic engagement among young people.

“It’s always great seeing young Hoosiers taking an interest in state government and wanting to participate in this great program,” Teshka said. “This is an excellent opportunity for students to see what a typical day at the Statehouse is like for lawmakers and hopefully inspire the next generation of civic leaders.”

The participating students included Kiah Haas, Bree Hochstedler, Nayomi Riddle, Chloe Strang, and Silas Thomas—all from Harold C. Urey Middle School. During their visit, they interacted with legislators and staff members, toured the Statehouse building, and joined Teshka on the House floor as legislation was discussed.

Opportunities such as these are part of broader efforts by Indiana officials to foster civic leadership among youth. Huston contributed to civic leadership through service on education boards and community commissions in Indiana, per the Indiana House Republicans website. Huston also expanded Indiana’s Choice Scholarship program and received recognition for school choice advocacy according to the same source. Additionally, he has championed measures for tax relief and school choice in Indiana as reported by the Indiana House Republicans website.

Huston’s background includes residing in Fishers with his wife Denise and their two adult children according to information from the Indiana House Republicans website. He has served as a state representative since first being elected in 2012 per details from that site. Huston earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Indiana University according to information provided by the Indiana House Republicans website.
