Shortridge High School senior Julian DeFrantz has been named Mr. Beautillion at the 39th Annual Beautillion Militaire Scholarship Celebration, organized by 100 Black Men of Indianapolis. This recognition follows his completion of a demanding 20-week leadership and personal development program for high school seniors.
DeFrantz was acknowledged for his academic achievements, community service, and leadership skills, which earned him scholarship funds to support his college education. “The reason why I feel like I was chosen for this honor is due to a couple of keen characteristics that can contribute to becoming not only a great businessman one day, but a leader who is influential in their community,” DeFrantz said. He attributed his success to initiative, networking, dedication, and hard work.
Several other students from Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) participated in the program alongside DeFrantz, including Kamar’e Carr, Frederick Johnson, Joshua Sargaret from Shortridge High School, and Kendrick Davis from Believe Circle City.
The event concluded with a formal ceremony where participants showcased precision drills and creative talents. Scholarships were awarded based on academic performance and engagement in fundraising activities.
The Beautillion Militaire program aims to transform young men by focusing on wealth creation, college preparation, financial literacy, cultural awareness, and career readiness. Participants also develop a “Man Plan” outlining their future goals.
“This experience taught me that I’m capable of setting ambitious goals and achieving them through persistence and creativity,” said DeFrantz. He plans to attend Prairie View A&M University to study business management on a pre-law track with aspirations of becoming a corporate lawyer.
Julian’s parents expressed pride in their son’s accomplishments. “This recognition is a beautiful affirmation of our son’s character and the values we’ve tried to nurture at home,” Dr. Robert DeFrantz stated. The family appreciates IPS for providing opportunities that help students grow academically and as community leaders.
