Legislation authored by State Representative Lori Goss-Reaves, aimed at updating Indiana’s dental code, has been approved by the Senate. House Enrolled Act 1031, which has garnered bipartisan support, includes several measures intended to enhance dental service accessibility for Indiana residents.
Goss-Reaves highlighted the significance of this bill, stating, “By bringing this bill forward, Indiana is prioritizing the importance of dentistry and oral health. We are making significant strides to assist dental professionals throughout our state and ensure they have the tools and support needed to serve Hoosiers.”
Another key component of the legislation is addressing issues faced by dentists working in correctional facilities. Often, a single dentist is responsible for multiple sites. Goss-Reaves explained, “This bill will allow for those dentists to remotely supervise dental assistants in performing radiographs to then send those images to the dentist to determine next steps for care. This will help alleviate the strain on dentists who may not be readily available to provide services at multiple facilities at once.”
