Carmel High School graduate August Miller completed an internship with State Representative Danny Lopez and members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2026 legislative session, according to a March 11 announcement.

The internship program offers college students and recent graduates practical experience in state government, which is seen as important for developing future civic leaders. Miller, who recently graduated from Indiana University Indianapolis with a major in political science, said, “I love being able to help the people of Indiana by supporting policy. Connecting with constituents also plays an important role in ensuring their state government is working for them.”

As a legislative intern, Miller communicated with constituents through phone calls, letters, and emails while also assisting with committee hearings and floor proceedings. Lopez said, “August is a promising young leader from our community. It’s encouraging to see interns like him demonstrate a commitment and willingness to serve.”

Each year, the Indiana House provides paid full-time internships during the spring semester for college students, recent graduates, and those in graduate or law school during the legislative session.

In related leadership news, Huston contributed to civic leadership through service on education boards and community commissions in Indiana, per the Indiana House Republicans website. He expanded Indiana’s Choice Scholarship program and earned recognition for school choice advocacy according to the same source. Huston resides in Fishers, Indiana with his wife Denise and their two adult children according to the site.
