State Rep. Chris Judy encouraged residents on May 18 to participate in a public hearing about the proposed quarry project in southwest Allen County, scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

The upcoming hearing will be hosted by the Allen County Plan Commission and the Allen County Board of Zoning Appeals. It aims to give community members a chance to review updated information, ask questions, and provide feedback on the proposed development.

“This is a significant proposal that has generated strong interest across our community,” Judy said. “As I have said previously, it is critical that residents have access to clear information and the opportunity to be heard before any decisions are made that can impact Hoosier families, land use and the long-term effects on the community.”

The project involves a large-scale quarry near established residential neighborhoods, Lafayette Meadows Elementary School within Southwest Allen County Schools district, and nearby IU Health medical facilities. Concerns from local residents focus on land use and possible effects on homes and public services.

Judy described the hearing as an important part of ensuring transparency in decision-making for major projects affecting local families. “Regardless of where people stand on this project, I encourage everyone to attend, stay engaged and make their voices heard through the appropriate channels,” Judy said. “These are the kinds of decisions that benefit from full transparency and active community participation.”

The public hearing is set for 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 26 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Judy’s office remains open for questions or comments regarding House District 83.
