A new amendment to Senate Bill 1 was introduced, aiming to change the allocation of local property tax dollars in Indiana’s public schools. This proposal may impact the resources available for Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) students. The amendment is scheduled for a hearing by the House Ways and Means Committee on Monday, April 7, at 10:30 a.m. The committee will amend and vote on the bill, though no public testimony will be permitted.

Gregory Porter, Rep. Mike Andrade, Rep. Chris Campbell, Rep. Edward DeLaney, Rep. Earl Harris, Rep. Sheila Klinker, Rep. Tonya Pfaff, and Rep. Cherrish Pryor.

Dr. Aleesia Johnson encourages the public to contact House Leadership and Committee Members to express concerns about the bill’s effects on the district. She states, “Your voice matters! Thank you for standing with us and speaking up for the future of public education in Indianapolis.”
