Legislation authored by State Representative Kyle Pierce to address technical issues in Indiana Code was signed into law by Governor Braun on March 9. The bill, known as House Enrolled Act 1088, passed the Senate and aims to resolve technical conflicts from the previous legislative session.
The new law is intended to ensure that Indiana’s statutes remain clear and reliable by correcting errors such as spelling, tabulation, formatting, grammar, and cross-references. Pierce said the legislation does not change substantive law or policy but focuses exclusively on fixing technical problems that can occur during the legislative process. The bill was prepared by the Code Revision Committee.
“Technical corrections like HEA 1088 may not be exciting, but they are important to maintaining clear and reliable Indiana Code,” Pierce said. “The bill addresses 21 specific issues carried over from last session, so our laws remain precise, consistent and easy to apply.”
According to Pierce, HEA 1088 corrects a total of 21 technical errors found within Indiana Code. These include incorrect cross-references, outdated references to obsolete or repealed statutes, entities and programs, as well as grammatical and formatting mistakes. The legislation also fixes spelling and other structural inconsistencies for improved clarity.
