With the conclusion of the 2025 legislative session in April, State Representative Dave Hall (R-Norman) has brought attention to several new state laws that took effect this summer. Among these is a law designed to address current energy demands.
House Enrolled Act 1007 introduces incentives for small modular nuclear reactors as part of efforts to modernize Indiana’s energy grid. This legislation aims to reduce risks for ratepayers while meeting the expanding energy needs of large commercial users.
“This new law is a smart step forward as we work to meet growing energy needs without putting the cost on everyday Hoosiers,” said Hall, who co-authored the new law. “By supporting innovation like SMRs we’re keeping the lights on and supporting economic growth while protecting Hoosier ratepayers.”
In addition, lawmakers have worked on various issues affecting residents, including changes in education regulations. The state’s K-12 education statutes have been reduced by nearly 10%, allowing schools more flexibility in decision-making. House Enrolled Act 1002 eliminates unnecessary mandates and programs, enabling educators to focus more on teaching.
Hall also highlighted other significant laws:
Indiana’s budget remains balanced and maintains its AAA credit rating while funding key priorities and continuing state income tax cuts. The budget allocates record funding for K-12 schools and expands school choice options for all families next year. It also increases funding for public safety and housing access.
A new law supports foster families by making foster parents eligible for Child Care and Development Fund vouchers if they qualify, helping alleviate childcare costs. A set number of these vouchers are reserved for children placed with licensed foster parents.
