The Meyer Farm in Pike County has been recognized with a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award for maintaining family ownership and operation since 1895. The recognition was announced by State Rep. Cindy Ledbetter (R-Newburgh) and State Sen. Daryl Schmitt (R-Jasper).
“Indiana farm families have been feeding the world for generations, and we honor them with Hoosier Homestead awards,” Ledbetter said. “Even after many years of hard work and commitment to the land, these farmers continue to build our state into the gold standard of American agriculture.”
The Hoosier Homestead program acknowledges farms that have remained under the same family’s management for at least 100 years, offering centennial, sesquicentennial, or bicentennial awards depending on the length of ownership.
“As a fifth-generation farmer, I know how much time and effort it takes to keep a family farm up and running,” Schmitt said. “This family has worked hard from generation to generation and I congratulate them on earning this great honor.”
The Meyer Farm was among 95 families honored at a recent ceremony held during the Indiana State Fair.
Ceremonies for the Hoosier Homestead awards take place each spring and summer. Since its inception in 1976, more than 6,000 Indiana farms have received recognition for their contributions to the state’s economy and culture.
