Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is set to hold its annual IPS Student Advocacy Day at the Indiana Statehouse and Indiana State Library on Wednesday, February 25. The event will involve more than 50 high school students from IPS who will engage in civic learning activities designed to increase their understanding of government and legislative processes.
Participants will take part in a guided tour of the statehouse, listen to remarks from legislators and civic leaders, and join a lunch-and-learn discussion centered on leadership and public service. All members of the Indiana General Assembly have been invited to interact with students during the event.
The schedule for the day includes a statehouse tour from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by welcome remarks from IPS Superintendent Dr. Aleesia Johnson at 11:30 a.m. at the Indiana State Library. Legislator remarks, a civic leadership panel, and student discussions are planned between 11:35 a.m. and 1:05 p.m., with closing activities concluding at 1:15 p.m.
According to Indianapolis Public Schools, “IPS Student Advocacy Day strengthens the district’s presence at the Statehouse by elevating student voice in policy conversations and reinforcing IPS’s commitment to civic engagement and leadership development.”
