Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is gearing up for the 2025 Indiana Black Expo Education Conference, scheduled for July 17 at the Indiana Convention Center. Approximately 100 educators from IPS, backed by the district’s Office of Strategic Educational Excellence, are expected to participate in this event.
The conference, themed “Bringing Your A-Game: Engaging, Inspiring, and Leading in Education,” will include interactive workshops and sessions led by keynote speakers such as Brandon P. Fleming, an award-winning educator and founder of The Veritas Schools, and Dr. Shaun Woodly, creator of the “Teach, Hustle, Inspire” movement.
Dr. Patricia Payne, Director of the IPS Office of Racial Equity and Inclusion and a member of the conference planning committee, highlighted that attendees will explore new strategies in culturally responsive teaching and leadership development. “Our strong presence this year—and every year—demonstrates our thirst for fresh ideas, actionable strategies, and inspiring experiences to help us engage and motivate our students,” she stated.
Dr. Payne also emphasized the importance of sessions focused on innovative teaching practices for building inclusive classrooms. These efforts align with IPS’s equity-centered mission and the Rebuilding Stronger initiative aimed at replicating successful programs across the district.
“The conference is more than a learning experience,” Dr. Payne added. “It’s a chance to reconnect with our purpose, recharge our passion, and return equipped to lead with an equity mindset that embraces the diversity of our school community.”
