Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) will observe a districtwide Go Pink Day on Friday, October 3, as part of its annual effort to support breast cancer awareness throughout the month. The event encourages all students, staff, and families to wear pink to demonstrate unity and commitment to early detection.
AnnMarie Byers, who coordinates the initiative for the district, said the goal is to honor survivors, support those undergoing treatment, and remember those who have died from breast cancer. She noted that participation is open to everyone in the IPS community.
“Whether you’re a student, educator, bus driver, or athlete, everyone can play a part,” Byers said.
“This is about awareness, education, and compassion,” Byers added. “Pink is more than a color—it’s a reminder to take care of ourselves, to support each other, and to advocate for change. We wear pink to honor survivors, support those in treatment, and remember those we’ve lost.”
The campaign includes opportunities for deeper involvement beyond wearing pink. Those interested in volunteering during the 2025 More Than Pink Walk on October 4 can sign up at komen.volunteermatters.org.
IPS has also opened its online apparel store for fall purchases. Supporters can buy special T-shirts designed for breast cancer awareness by using code 94Y2F when accessing the store.
