The Indianapolis Public Library is inviting students and families to participate in its 2026 Summer Reading Program, which runs from May 30 through Aug. 1, according to a May 18 announcement. The program encourages children of all ages to continue reading during the summer break by offering prizes for time spent with books.

The initiative aims to keep students engaged in learning while school is out, supporting literacy development and helping prevent the loss of reading skills over the summer months. With this year’s theme, “Play Your Way!,” participants are encouraged to use their creativity as they explore new stories and activities at library branches or at home.

Readers can track their progress by logging hours spent reading independently, listening to audiobooks, or sharing stories aloud with family or friends. Prizes are available after reaching milestones of one, five, ten, fifteen, or twenty hours of reading. Registration began on May 1 and can be completed either online at https://www.indypl.org/programs-events/srp or at any Indianapolis Public Library location.

Indianapolis Public Schools serves over 30,000 students in central Indianapolis through a network of schools and programs that emphasize racial equity as a core strategic priority and foster academic excellence through tailored education in a dynamic setting, according to the official website.
