The Spillman Farm in Decatur County has been recognized with Hoosier Homestead Centennial, Sesquicentennial, and Bicentennial awards for its continuous operation since 1825. State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville) and State Sen. Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) announced the recognition.

“Hoosier Homestead awardees are a great example of the dedication it takes to keep a family farm going year after year,” Patterson said. “This recognition is a tribute to our rural communities. I’m proud to see families in our district honored for their impact on Indiana agriculture.”

The Hoosier Homestead awards are given to farms that have remained under the ownership and operation of the same family for at least 100, 150, or 200 years, corresponding to centennial, sesquicentennial, or bicentennial status.

“The Spillman family has been dedicated to passing on their agricultural legacy for generations,” Leising said. “Farm families like the Spillmans are a large part of the reason why Indiana is one of the top agricultural producers in the country. They should be proud of this impressive accomplishment.”

The Spillman Farm was among 95 farms honored during a recent ceremony at the Indiana State Fair. The state conducts Hoosier Homestead ceremonies each spring and summer. Since its inception in 1976, more than 6,000 farms have received recognition for their contributions to Indiana’s economy and culture.

Additional information about the Hoosier Homestead Award Program and nomination forms can be found at https://www.in.gov/isda/. Nominations for the March 2026 ceremony must be submitted by Nov. 1. Inquiries can be sent to HoosierHomestead@ISDA.IN.gov.

State Rep. Lindsay Patterson represents House District 55, which includes all of Fayette, Franklin and Union counties as well as parts of Decatur, Ripley and Rush counties.
