Congressman Jefferson Shreve announced on May 19 that he has secured more than $30 million in funding for Indiana’s Sixth Congressional District during his first month serving on the House Committee on Appropriations.
The funding is part of the first five appropriations bills approved by the committee and will support public safety, military readiness, law enforcement, and local first responders across south central and eastern Indiana. The measures have passed through the House Appropriations Committee and are awaiting consideration by the full House and Senate before they can be signed into law.
Specific allocations include $500,000 for the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department to replace a fire rescue truck. The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs bill includes $27.5 million for the Indiana National Guard to design and engineer a new aircraft maintenance hangar in Shelbyville, which will support 13 aircraft and 77 soldiers with updated facilities. Other funds include $650,000 for the Shelbyville Police Department to replace outdated police radios; $120,000 for Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office for a mobile command center and fentanyl identification technology; and $1.65 million for bulletproof vests and helmets for Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers.
“Securing this funding in my first month on Appropriations shows what’s possible when Indiana has a seat at the table,” said Congressman Shreve. “These investments will help keep our communities safe, support our service members, and give local law enforcement and first responders the tools they need to do their jobs well. I came to Congress to deliver for Indiana, and this is exactly the kind of work Hoosiers sent me here to do.”
Shreve was recently appointed as the first Indiana Republican in three decades to serve on the House Committee on Appropriations.
