The Indianapolis Colts announced on Mar. 17 the signing of veteran safety Jonathan Owens.
Owens joins the Colts as he enters his eighth season in the National Football League, bringing experience from previous stints with the Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers, and Chicago Bears. The move adds depth to the team’s defensive backfield and special teams units.
Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 214 pounds, Owens has played in 82 games with 35 starts over his career. He has recorded two interceptions, eight pass break-ups, two forced fumbles, two sacks, three tackles for a loss, and a total of 295 tackles. Owens has also contributed significantly on special teams, logging at least 230 snaps each season for the past three years and reaching a career high of 264 snaps with the Bears in 2025. In addition to his defensive work, he returned a blocked punt for a touchdown during Week 1 of the 2024 season to help secure a win for Chicago against Tennessee.
Off the field, Owens is married to Simone Biles, an athlete recognized as the most decorated gymnast in history with eleven Olympic medals.
The addition of Owens is expected to strengthen both defense and special teams for Indianapolis as they prepare for the upcoming NFL season.
