The Indianapolis Colts announced on Mar. 17 that they have signed Carson Towt as an undrafted free agent tight end.
Towt, who most recently played as a forward for Notre Dame Basketball during the 2025-26 season, brings a unique athletic background to the team. Before his time at Notre Dame, the 6-foot-7, 250-pound athlete played basketball at Northern Arizona from 2019 to 2025. During his tenure there, Towt set a Big Sky Conference single-season record with 423 total rebounds in the 2024-25 season and led the country in that category. He also recorded 20 double-doubles.
Notably, Towt did not play football in high school or college, making his transition to professional football uncommon among NFL players.
With this signing, Towt joins another Colts tight end with a similar background: Mo Alie-Cox. Alie-Cox played basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University before being signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017. The veteran player re-signed with the team on Monday and is now the second-longest tenured member of the Colts roster.
The addition of Towt highlights the team’s continued interest in athletes with diverse sporting backgrounds and may signal further opportunities for non-traditional prospects.
