Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) has announced the appointment of Christy Martino as the new principal of Frederick Douglass School 19. The IPS School Board of Commissioners approved her for the position.

Martino brings over 24 years of experience in education, specializing in literacy and instructional leadership. She recently worked as a Literacy Training Support Specialist with the Indiana Literacy Cadre at Marian University, where she collaborated with teachers and leaders to enhance early literacy.

Her career includes positions as a principal and assistant principal in Perry Township and Noblesville, along with roles as a TAP Regional Coordinator and national literacy consultant. Martino began her career as an elementary teacher in the Chicago suburbs.

“I believe that building a strong sense of community is essential to fostering a culture of connection and belonging,” said Principal Martino.
